Bernhardt Fredrick 'Bernie' Zerfas, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, just short of his 94th birthday.

Born in 1916, in a house built by his Austrian immigrant grandparents in Ellis. He grew up milking cows in the morning before walking miles to a one-room school house.  Bernie remembered well the Great Depression when times were so hard, his parents home burned down, and his father fell ill, and Bernie worked for neighbors cleaning barns and hauling manure for less than a dollar a day -- which he gave to his parents.   Married his first and only steady girlfriend, MARTHA MEISNER.    She died in 1984.  In 1987, Bernie married IRENE KELLER.   Irene survives him as does his sister, Irene Mounkes of Tecumseh, Kansas.   (Note:  Story of his life in obituary.)

In 1987, Bernie married IRENE KELLER. He is survived by his wife, Irene of Hays; two daughters, Sidney Sproul and husband Dave of Wichita and Peggy Tomlinson-Poswall and husband John of Lincoln, California.

Clementine Marie "Clemie" Dreiling, 78, Hays, died Sunday, April 11, 2010.   Born June 8, 1931, in Park to Clement and Mary (Zerr) Zerr.   Married HUBERT DREILING on Feb. 15, 1957.   Preceded her in death April 15, 1997. .   Survivors include two sons, David Dreiling and wife, Marge, Hays, and Chris Dreiling, Victoria; a daughter, Sandy Gottschalk and husband, Keith, Hays; two brothers, Leonard, Quinter, and Eddie, Grainfield; a sister, Marie Kriley, New Braunfels, Texas; and four grandchildren, Nick and Sara Dreiling and Brandon and Dylan Gottschalk.   Preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Aggie Burgardt.

Born September 20, 1952 at Sikeston, Missouri to Leonard and Iva (Carr) Ziegler.   Married to DR. JOHN HEINRICHS on August 22, 1993.   Preceded in death by her mother Iva and sister Marla. Survivors include her father Leonard; husband John; two sons, Christopher Walkup of Mansfield, Ohio, and Joshua Brown of Albany, California; sister Candice Poor of Troy, Missouri; and brothers Carl and Eric Ziegler of Saint Ann, Missouri.
