NEWTON — Leonore Grace Friesen Klassen passed away on Thursday (May 20, 2010) at her home in Newton. She was born in Oraibi (Keams Canyon), Ariz., in the Hopi Indian Reservation on June 25, 1920, to missionary parents Karl and Frieda (Balzer) Friesen. After her retirement, she met her husband, ELMER KLASSEN, and they were married on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1988. They began their life together in North Newton and later moved to Presbyterian Manor. They attended Grace Community Church, where they were married and Leonore was one of the founding members. Leonore had a very fulfilling life and enjoyed life in her dedication to God’s work. She was greatly influenced by her father, whose books continued to be a source of good reading next to the Bible for she and her husband. (Note: Obituary covers her life)

Mary Funk Stratman passed away Oct. 13, 2010, in Tempe, Ariz., where she had been a resident for the past eight years. Mary was the last surviving child of 13 children born to Peter B. and Mary (Remple) Funk of the rural Bruderthal Mennonite community near Hillsboro. In 1930, Mary married a widower, ALEX STRATMAN, of Hillsboro. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren in many states and several foreign countries. Family and friends will be invited to gather for a memorial and celebration service for Mary on April 15, 2011, in Hillsboro, which is the 102nd anniversary of her birth.
