Betty Hankins, 83, died Aug. 4, 2009. Born Feb. 11, 1926, at Buhler the daughter of Dietrich and Agnes Barkman Penner. Married DALE HANKINS. He survives at the home. Other survivors include: three daughters, Cheryl Cox, Hutchinson, Connie Carson, Mokelumne Hill, Calif., Carol Denlea, Prosser, Wash.; son Creig Hankins, Santa Cruz, Calif.; brother Jesse Penner, Hutchinson; two sisters, Annie Prough, Haven, and Elsie Nickle, Hutchinson; five grandchildren; Tom, Chris and Crystal Carson, Justin and Emily Denlea; and one very special great-granddaughter, Alyssa Carson. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Mark. Christmas was special to Betty which she celebrated with her extensive Christmas tree collection and the yard display "Going to Grandma's House" which is a Hutchinson favorite at Christmastime and has been recognized nationally.

HESSTON - Theodore "Ted" E. Prouty, 74, died Oct. 22, 2009. Born Dec. 1, 1934, to Wilbur and Wilhelmina Wiegand Prouty. Married PHYLLIS LEFORT. She survives. Other survivors include: sons, Rick, Ted Jr. and Richard; daughters, Lisa Schmidt and Maggie Smet; brother, Robert; sisters, Elizabeth "Liz" Schierling, Marilyn VanRossun, Mary Ballard, Carol Rostetter and Donna Tatro; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

HESSTON — Theodore “Ted” E. Prouty passed away on Thursday (Oct. 22, 2009) in Wichita. Born in Newton on Dec. 1, 1934, the son of Wilbur and Wilhelmina Wiegand Prouty. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps and was discharged in 1955. Married PHYLLIS LEFORT. He and Phyllis were voted “Family of the Year” in 2000. He took his wife annually to the Kansas State Fair. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of the home; sons, Rick Prouty and his wife, Nadine, of Hesston, Ted “Butch” Prouty Jr. and his wife, Dee, of Sedgwick, and Richard Prouty of Newton; daughters, Lisa Schmidt and her husband, Kevin, of Sedgwick, and Maggie Smet and her husband, Craig, of Newton. Ted has 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Robert “Bob” Prouty of Newton; sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Schierling of Wichita, Marilyn VanRossun and Mary Ballard, both of Moundridge, Carol Rostetter of Dodge City, and Donna Tatro of McPherson. Preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Friesen, who had lived in Cody, Wyo.
