Daubert, Henry 1881-1965 - Henry Daubert Sr., 83, of the New Western Manor Nursing Home, died Sunday (Jan. 3, 1965) at the home. He was born in Russia August 15, 1881, and moved to Huntley in 1921. He came to Billings in 1941. He married Mary Katherine Stricker Feb. 6, 1906, in Russia.
Surviving are four sons, John of 307 S. 24th St., Victor of 1056 Sioux Lane, Henry Jr. of Renton WA, and Alex of Garden Grove CA; two brothers, George of Belmont CA and Jacob of Cudahy WI, 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jacob Dauenhauer Jr., 53, 21 Central Drive, died Saturday (April 28, 1973) in Veterans Hospital in Sheridan WY. Mr. Dauenhauer was born April 16, 1920, in Mott ND. He was a miner for the Anaconda Co., and a veteran of WW II. He was a member of the Butte Miners Union and the Rock Hounds and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Laitenen of Minnesota, Mrs. Bea Moore of Florida; a son, Richard Dauenhauer of Colorado; five grandchildren; brothers, Benedick, Butte, John, Al, Roy and Louie, all of Billings, Henry of Rapid City SD, and Ike, Corpus Cove TX; sisters, Sally Haberstroh, Rapid City and Bea Hennelly, Boston MA.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 in the Holy Savior Church with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. The Rosary will be said Tuesday at 8 in Duggan Merrill Mortuary. MOUNDRIDGE - Elmer Laverin Decker, 84, died Nov. 7, 2009, at Moundridge Manor. He was born June 25, 1925, to Abe and Helena Dirks Decker. On Aug. 1, 1948, he married DONNA KOEHN. She died in 2004. Survivors include: son, Leon; daughters, Wanetta Decker, and Marlene Koehn; brothers, Harvey, Ben, and John; sisters, Elizabeth Miller, and Alta Langer; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Degenhart, John not given/ca.1861-1925 - John Degenhart died at his home about 5 miles northeast of Billings, Saturday evening (Jan. 31, 1925) at 6 o’clock. He suffered a paralytic stroke early Saturday morning. Mr. Degenhart came to Yellowstone county 10 years ago and had been engaged in farming since coming here. He was born in Russia and came to this country 35 years ago, farming in Kansas until he removed to Montana.
He is survived by seven children, John and Adam Degenhart, Mrs. Adolph Schwalger and Mrs. George Lembrecht, all of Billings; Peter Degenhart, Topeka KS; Mrs. John Prubeckey, Newton KS; and Mrs. Joe Stegman, Pratt KS. HOISINGTON — Craig A. Demel, 48, died Aug. 2 (2009) at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Oct. 7, 1960 in Hoisington, he was the son of Dennis L. Demel and Beth L. Humphrey Ummel. A lifetime resident of Hoisington he was an employee of Town and Country Supermarket in Hoisington. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Demel was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington.
Survivors include a son, William Demel of Otis; a daughter, Shani Stout and husband Kyle of Otis; his father, Dennis Demel and wife WILMA (DEMEL) of Hoisington; his mother, Beth Ummel and husband Kenneth of Wichita; a sister, Denise Schreiber and husband Bob of Hoisington; a grandson, Ryker Stout; and a step-brother, Gary Ummel of Hoisington.

Lillian Marie Dinges, 84, Ellis, died Monday, July 20, 2009, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center. She was born April 16, 1925, in Rush County to Joseph and Barbara (Obholz) Depperschmidt.
She married CLARENCE SCHMIDT on March 9, 1943. He preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1976. She later married EDWARD A. DINGES on Oct. 15, 1983, in Ellis. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, Eagle's Auxilliary of Hays and Sunflower Polka Club of Hays.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons, Harold Schmidt and wife, Myrtle, Appaloosa, La., John Schmidt and wife, Twila, and Kenny Schmidt, all of Ellis; three daughters, Rosetta Aschenbrenner and husband, Robert, and Tina Keller and husband, David, all of Ellis, and Marlene Morgan, Stockton; a brother, Leo Depperschmidt, Garden City; three sisters, Dorothy Bittel and Angela Archer, both of La Crose, and Edna Augustine, Ellis; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth Barenberg and Darlene Schmidt; a grandson, Justin Barenberg; a son-in-law, Elmer Schaefer; five brothers; and three sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. DeWald, George 1876-1942 - George DeWald, 66, resident of Laurel since 1913, died at his home at 316 Forest avenue, Laurel, at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday (Sep. 15, 1942) following an illness that began last February.
Mr. DeWald was employed by the Northern Pacific railroad at Laurel until 8 years ago, when he became janitor of the first ward school. He was born in Russia Feb. 4, 1876, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad DeWald, and was married to KATHERINE ELIZABETH HOFFMAN Jan. 9, 1900. He and his family came to Canada from Russia in 1911 and to Laurel two years later.
Surviving Mr. DeWald are his widow, 3 sons, Victor, Walter and Henry, all of Laurel; two daughters, Molly of Laurel and Mrs. R. G. Becker of Tacoma WA; and a brother, Conrad.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Laurel German Congregational church, of which Mr. DeWald was a member. Burial will be in the Laurel cemetery.

A Navy veteran of WW II, he was born February 10, 1928 in Browns Valley MN. He was a retired utility dispatcher, a volunteer with Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Las Vegas traffic court. He was a 4 year resident of Las Vegas.

HILLSBORO - Kathryn M. Schroeder, 102, died Nov. 24, 2009, at Parkside Nursing Home, Hillsboro. She was born March 11, 1907, in Reno County, the daughter of Abraham M. and Sarah Thiessen Dick. She graduated from Buhler High School. She moved to Hillsboro in 2001, formerly of rural Inman.
She was a faithful member of Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church, Buhler. She taught fourth grade Sunday school, served on the fest (social) committee and the Herwanna chapter, a missions quilt project committee.
On May 30, 1932, she married MENNO F. SCHROEDER in Buhler. He died Dec. 28, 1980. Survivors include: son, Junis and wife Velma, Inman; daughters, Betty Thomas and husband James, and Rosella Martin and husband Loyal, all of Hillsboro; sister, Helen Reimer, Meade; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, George, Eddie and Jacob; and sisters, Sara Classen, Mary Dick and Martha Franz.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Buhler Municipal Cemetery, Buhler. LONGMONT, Colo. — Gary Dicks, 70, of Longmont, Colo., passed away Oct. 9 (2009) at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver of complications arising from a brief battle with leukemia that started Aug. 1. He was born Aug. 20, 1939, in Herington, to Virginia Loraine (Ollenberger) and Lee Edward Dicks. Gary graduated from Hoisington High School. He then graduated from Wichita State University with a Music Education degree and from the University of Missouri-Kansas City dental school with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He married MARTHA ANN HISCUTT on June 2, 1962, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Gary honorably served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and at the 93rd Evac Hospital at Long Binh in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of captain and received the Bronze Star for his service. In 1970, Gary moved to Longmont and opened a private dental practice. He retired in 2005.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont. Gary was an avid musician, having played bass trombone with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra for 30 years beginning in 1970 and also at Colorado Mahlerfest for 13 years. He was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and hiking. He hiked seven of Colorado’s 14ers, was a lifetime member of the NRA and volunteered with the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; his son, Brent Lee Dicks (Denise) of Loveland, Colo.; his daughter, Laura Lee Rhiannon of Loveland, and three grandchildren, Marissa Ann Mountfort, Julia Ruthann Dicks and Nathan Lee Dicks. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service and inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Cemetery in Herington. Julius F. Dinges, 87, Hays, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at St. John's Health Care Center, Hays.
He was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Schoenchen to Peter and Catherine (Engel) Dinges.
He married CHARLOTTE ROSS. He was a longtime Hays businessman and worked for Sinclair Oil and Gas as a distributor before purchasing the business. He owned and operated Dinges Oil for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Wichita; six children; two brothers, Gilbert "Bux" and Peter James "Jim" Dinges, both of Schoenchen; and a sister, Mary Diann Binder, Hays.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hilda Staab; and five brothers, Victor, infant Peter James, Alvin, Henry and Melvin.

She was a housekeeper in Hays for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.

Laurita M. "Rita" Cozadd, age 70, of Salina, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Holiday Resort Nursing Center, in Salina. Mrs. Cozadd was born March 23, 1939, in Victoria to Aegidius J. and Aegidia (Geist) Dinkel. She had worked for Long McArthur Ford in Salina for over 26 years as the title clerk, retiring in 2003. She was a member of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, KENNETH (COZADD), in 2002.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynnette Gustafson, of Salina, and Jan Henry and husband Steve, of Falun; and a grandson, Rory Gustafson, of Salina.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Ryan Mortuary, with Father Kerry Nine-mire officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. GREENSBURG - Lois Marie Koehn, 90, died Aug. 12, 2009, at her home in Wichita. She was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Greensburg, Kan., the daughter of Lincoln and Leah Peaster Dirks. She graduated from Mullinville High School in 1937 and lived in Greensburg until her move to Wichita in 2003. She was a homemaker, member of the Greensburg Mennonite Church and active in Kiowa County 4-H.On Oct. 29, 1939, she married VIRGIL H. KOEHN in Greensburg. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2006.

BUHLER - Margaret Richert, 105, passed away September 16, 2009, at the Buhler Sunshine Home. She was born July 4, 1904, in Reno County, KS the daughter of Abraham and Maria Dyck Dirks. She taught elementary school for 20 years. She also enjoyed gardening, embroidery, making patchwork quilts, playing scrabble and memorizing Bible Verses. Her fun-loving spirit and praying heart touched many lives. She was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church, Buhler.
She married ABRAHAM RICHERT on January 1, 1931, in Buhler. He died June 21, 1986. She is survived by her sons, Allan and wife Lil, Rockford, Ill.; Paul and wife LaVerna, Buhler, KS; six grandchildren, Loren Schrag and wife Jan, Paola, KS; Sandy and husband James Walker, Kent, Wash.; Mark Richert and wife Lynda, Wheaton, Ill.; Genita and husband Rob Heidenreich, Cincinnati, Ohio; Kurtis Richert, Buhler, KS; and Laura and husband Derrick Rhoden, Buhler, KS; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Anna Seibel, Hillsboro, KS.

Lucille Befort, 92, Hays, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at St. John's of Hays. She was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Hays to Joseph and Agnes (Staab) Doerfler.
She married AL BIEKER on Sept. 30, 1935. He preceded her in death June 30, 1969. She later married BILL BEFORT on May 29, 1975. He preceded her in death June 8, 2006. She and her first husband built and operated Al's Chickenette in Hays until their retirement in 1969. Prior to owning the Chickenette, she worked at Boeing and Beechcraft Aircraft Plants in Wichita during World War II.
She was chairwoman of the noodle-making project for 24 years, which was a fundraiser for the Hays Medical Center Auxiliary and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, Daughters of Isabella and Hays Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include two step-sons, Don Befort, Hays, and Bill Befort Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.; three step-daughters, Sister Jean Befort, Concordia, Teresa Gottschalk, Hays, and Margaret Ann Hines, Arvada, Colo.; three brothers, Wif Doerfler, Wooster, Ohio, Marvin "Mo" Doerfler, Trenton, Mich., and Harold Doerfler, Hutchinson.; five sisters, Edna Brown, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sister Rachel Doerfler, CSA, Phoenix, Milly Fitzgerald, Florissant. HESSTON — Nelson Edward Dreier, 84, of Hesston died today (Dec. 31, 2009) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, after a short illness. Nelson was born on May 14, 1925, in Newton to Fred and Luella Molzen Dreier. He was raised by his stepmother, Keturah Kaufman Buckwalter. He graduated from Newton High School.
On Nov. 28, 1947, he married ENOLA TANGEMAN. They were lifetime residents of rural Hesston, where he was a dairyman until the early 1970s and had been in farming ever since.
Nelson was a member of Highland Trinity United Church of Christ in rural Newton.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Enola, of Hesston: three daughters, Connie Selzer, Judy Young and husband Bob, and Cindy Frey and husband Russ, all of Hesston; son, Tim Dreier of Bozeman, Mont.; 10 grandchildren, Neal Roth Jr., Nathan Roth Sr., Staci Young Hansen, Derek Young, Ryan Dreier, Justin Dreier, Kristin Frey, Kelcie Frey, Jason Frey and Lindsey Selzer; and great-grandchildren, Parker Roth, Ryleigh Roth, Nathan Roth Jr., Christian Roth, Brooklynn Roth, Kaleb Hansen, Blake Hansen and Braden Hansen.

Sister Bernadine Dreiling C.S.A., 91, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, Wisc. She was born as Theresa Dreiling on June 25, 1918, in Victoria, to Peter P.A. and Margaret (Vonfeldt) Dreiling.
She entered the convent in Fond du Lac in 1934 at the age of 16 and three years later made her first profession of vows as Sister Bernadine Dreiling C.S.A. She spent more than 50 years as a homemaker with the sisters of the St. Agnes communities in Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan and Kansas. She earned a Food Service Supervisor certificate from Fontbonne College, St. Louis.
Survivors include a sister, Ida Walker, Kansas City, Kan.; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her sister of St. Agnes family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six bothers, Alexander "Alex" Dreiling, Herman Dreiling, Walter Dreiling; Bonaventure "Bonny" Dreiling, Dominic "Doc" Dreiling and Leo Dreiling; four sisters, Beata Kreitler, Adelheid "Adeline" Sheer; Regina Hopfinger and Gertrude McDonald.

He was born March 9, 1964, in Denver to Nancy (Wheaton) and Charles Dreiling. He attended Lake Highlands High School, Richland College and University of North Texas. He spent the majority of his career with McGraw Hill Publishing.

LINWOOD — Kenneth Francis Dreiling, 71, of Linwood, formerly of Salina, passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009. Kenneth was born July 29, 1938, in Hays, to Gerard and Coletta Dreiling. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Kansas Wesleyan University.
On Jan. 24, 1959, he married JEWEL FISHER in Houston.
Kenneth worked as a research analyst for the State of Kansas for 31 years. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, traveling and growing exotic flowers.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, John, in 1982; and father, Gerard, in 2001.

Leo P. Dreiling, 70, Manhattan, formerly of Plainville, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, after a battle with cancer for nine months. He was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Hays to Leo P. and Anna Gross Dreiling. He was a 1957 graduate of Plainville High School.
He married CAROLYN M. BERLAND on Jan. 6, 1959, in Damar. He worked in the clothing business for 40 years. In 1962, they opened the first Dreiling's Department Store in Mankato. They also owned stores in Smith Center, Herrington, Concordia and Belleville. In 1990, he became the development director for the Catholic Diocese of Salina. In 1992, they moved to Manhattan, and he became bookkeeper for "It's Greek To Me." In 1994, they obtained their real estate licenses and became part owners of Landmark Real Estate. They developed and built the Westbank Townhomes, where they lived for the past 11 years. In 1994, he served as the president of the Manhattan Association of Realtors, and they recently retired from real estate.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and he served there as a liturgical minister for many years. He also belonged to Compassionate Friends, the Little Apple Barbershop Chorus, Knights of Columbus and Businessmen's Full Gospel.
He enjoyed riding his trike and four-wheeling, motor home traveling, hunting, fishing, singing, following Kansas State University sports, watching his grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, David Dreiling and wife, Kristen, and Dustin Dreiling and wife, Kyra, all of Manhattan; a daughter, Diane Hofstetter and husband, Roy, Leavenworth; a sister, Arlene Tilford, La Crosse; six grandchildren, Rachelle Lowman, Chad Hofstetter, Kristyn Nelson, Josh Hofstetter, Tyler Dreiling and Morgan Dreiling; three great-grandchildren, Adison, Aniyah and Gabriel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rita Mae Ree, in 1994; and three children, Donovan and Dana Dreiling in 1975, and Darren Dreiling in 1985.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church; burial in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a wake/memorial service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Lorene Schamberger, 88, WaKeeney, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Hays to Peter M. and Clara (Bollig) Dreiling.
She married ADOLPH SCHAMBERGER on Nov. 20, 1945, in Collyer. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Schamberger, Blue Springs, Mo., Alan Schamberger, Council Grove, Gary Schamberger, Odessa, Mo., and Earl Schamberger, Morland; three daughters, Rose Berg, Houston, Janice Burkhart, Pratt, and Alyce Quattlebaum, Spotsylvania, Va.; four brothers, Eugene Dreiling, Grinnell, Robert Dreiling, WaKeeney, Father Augustine Dreiling, Conception Junction, Mo., and James Dreiling, Kensington; two sisters, Rose Marie Hoerman, Manhattan, and Sister Rose Dreiling, WaKeeney; 19 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Schamberger.

NEWTON - Aldene Fern Stucky, 82, died Dec. 23, 2009. She was born Aug. 25, 1927, to Henry and Marie Funk Duerksen.
On June 28, 1948, she married MELVIN R. STUCKY. He survives. Other survivors include: a son, Richard K. Stucky; a daughter, Donna Louise Williams; brothers Jay Duerksen, Monroe Duerksen and Dillard Duerksen; sisters Leona Arthurs, and Janice Dyck; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret Suppes, 82, died Nov. 16 (2009) at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. She was born May 25, 1927, at La Crosse, the daughter of George and Maude Snyder Dumler. She married GEORGE J. SUPPES on April 23, 1947, at La Crosse. He died Dec. 13, 1983. She had been a Great Bend resident for the past 12 years, after living in Ellinwood for more than 30 years. She worked in the housekeeping department at Ellinwood District Hospital for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Suppes was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Great Bend.
Survivors include a son Daniel J. (Crystal) Suppes of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three daughters, Susan (Terry) Wright of St. John, Kathy Suppes of Manhattan and Marcia (Clifford) McCraw of Great Bend; two sisters, Nadine Million of La Crosse and June Wilhelm of Rush Center; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Abe Dumler and Floyd Dumler, and a sister, Violet Suppes.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. On Aug. 3, 1941, he married EDNA KOEHN in Galva. She died Dec. 6, 2008. HOLMESVILLE, Neb. — Irene E. Claassen, 83, of Holmesville, passed away Thursday (Aug. 13, 2009) at Parkview Center. She was born on March 5, 1926, in rural Whitewater to Jacob J. and Marie G. (Harder) Dyck. They preceded her in death.
Irene graduated from Potwin High School in 1943 and took classes for two years at Bethel College in North Newton. After college, she taught rural country school for five years in Kansas.
Irene married ERNEST G. CLAASSEN on Jan. 20, 1951, in rural Whitewater. He survives.
She was a direct care worker at Beatrice State Developmental Center for 25 years. She was a member of Beatrice Mennonite Church and Nebraskans for Peace. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, canning, bird watching and playing board games.
Irene also is survived by two daughters, Linda Claassen-Jones of Newton and Marian Claassen of Goldendale, Wash.; a son, Richard Claassen and wife, Ruth, of Truth Or Consequences, N.M.; five grandchildren, Christopher Jones and wife, Jennifer, Evan Claassen and wife, Jovelyn, Andrew Claassen, Hans Swager and Czesia Claassen; two great-grandchildren, Paxton and Mackenna Jones; two sisters, Gertrude Schmidt of North Newton and Esther Schmidt of Wichita; two brothers, Walter Dyck of Albuquerque, N.M., and Herbert Dyck and wife, Alice, of Washington, Kan.; and nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by twin infant daughters, Rebecca and Ruth, and 10 siblings.
The body will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, Neb., with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beatrice Mennonite Church, with Pastor Muriel Kaufman-Graber officiating. FORT WORTH, Texas — Velvyn Ruth Hesler, 55, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 23, 2009) in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by her family.
Velvyn was born on May 11, 1954, in Ness City to John and Mary (Doebbeling) Dyke. She was a 1972 graduate of Newton High School. She married DAVID HESLER in 1974. He survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Jonathan, Nathan and Christopher, all of Hurst, Texas; sisters, Cindy Wierwille of Sedgwick and Jonise Dyke of Grandview, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
Velvyn was preceded in death by a grandson and her parents. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
