Funeral services were held on June 20th at 2 p.m. for Jacob Peter Ulrich of Bakersfield, Calif. at the Greenlawn Chapel at Bakersfield, with Rev. Waldemar Loesel officiating.
Mr. Ulrich was born Nov. 20, 1881 in Russia, and died June 15 at his home in Bakersfield, following a heart attack. When he was four years old, the family immigrated to the United States and settled in South Dakota. Several years later they moved to Cathay on a farm about 2 miles east of town. He remained in Cathay until several years ago, when he moved to California.
He operated a trucking business in Cathay, and held several positions of trust in the village. He was mayor at one time and fire chief, and held a life membership in the North Dakota firemen’s association. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and AOUW lodges while in Cathay.
He was married to Dora LEVI on Dec. 6, 1906, who survives him. To this union were born the following children, all surviving: Mrs. George Grochow of Anamoose; Gordon Ulrich of Boise, Idaho; Mrs. K. F. Horne of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. C. N. Horne of Washington, D. C.; Mrs. R. K. Sweet of Medicine Lake, Mont.; Melvin Ulrich of Bakersfield; Arthur Ulrich of Napa, Calif; Peter Ulrich of Harvey; and Raymond Ulrich of Angus, Minn. Two sisters and two brothers also survive him, including Mrs. Emma Stephen of Minneapolis; Mrs. Henry Brokofsky of Bismarck; Albert Ulrich of Fairview, Mont.; and Henry Ulrich of Malta, Mont.; also 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The pallbearers were nephews: LeRoy Levi, Bill Coleman, Carl Levi, Ewald Handel, Bill Handel and Otto Handel. Interment was made in the Greenlawn Memorial Park at Bakersfield. FORT SUMNER, N.M. - Anna Marie Unruh, 8, of Fort Sumner, N.M., died Aug. 3, 2007, from injuries received in an accident.
Anna Marie was born Dec. 17, 1998, in Amarillo, Texas, to the home of Andy and Nancy Koehn Unruh. She made her home with her family in Las Vegas, N.M., before moving to Fort Sumner. Anna Marie was a student at the Pecos Valley Christian School in the Fort Sumner Valley. Anna enjoyed reading, sewing, puppies, riding horses and gathering flowers for her family. She belonged to the Pecos Valley Mennonite Church.
Survivors include: her parents, Andy and Nancy Unruh; a sister, Edna Unruh, and a brother, Max Unruh, all of Fort Sumner; her maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Ann Koehn, Burns; and her paternal grandmother, Lenora Unruh, Belleville, Pa.
Anna was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Alpha Unruh.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ with Karl Ensz and Verle Johnson presiding. Burial was in Unruh Family Farm in the Fort Sumner Valley. Pallbearers were Seth Brockman, Blayne Holdeman, Daniel Unruh, Philip Ensz, Todd Unruh, Jeremy Schrock and Jared Peachy. HILLSBORO - Beverly Jane Unruh, 60, died on Oct. 28, 2007, at Salem Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1947, in Hillsboro, daughter of Cornelius A. Unruh and Rachel Jane Dick Unruh. She was a life time resident of Hillsboro. She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: one brother, Terry Unruh of Chandler, Ariz.
Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with the pastor Brett Huebner presiding. Memorials may be sent to Salem Nursing Home.

NEWTON - Clarence C. Unruh, 95, died May 15, 2007, at Kansas Christian Home, Newton.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1912, in rural Kiowa County, the son of Jacob and Susie Unruh Unruh. He worked as a carpenter and later as a printer at Mennonite Press until his retirement. He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Newton.
On July 23, 1936, he married Grace SCHMIDT. She died Jan. 1, 2006.
Survivors include: one son, Charles, Oswego, Ill.; two daughters, Carol Kirk-Brockmeier, Herington, Rachel Clark, Grapevine, Texas; and one brother, Cecil, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchilddren; three step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Otis, Ed, Verney; and two sisters, Anne Bontrager and Ethel Penner.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church, Newton, with Pastor Joan Boyer presiding. Visitation will be at 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Peterson's Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. GALVA - Curtis R. Unruh, 86, died May 23, 2007, at his home.
He was born Aug. 4, 1920, in McPherson County, the son of Dan J. and Eva Jantz Unruh. He was a lifetime area resident. He was a farmer and a carpenter.
He was a member of Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Galva.
On Sept. 21, 1941, he married Norma J. DIRKS in Durham. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Gordon D., Galva; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jackie; three brothers, Orlie, Briton and Sidney; two sisters, Nancy Becker and Jennie Unruh.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Galva. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Moundridge Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lone Tree Church Cemetery, Galva.

David Eugene Unruh, 45, died July 2, 2007, in Minden, Neb.
He was born March 9, 1962, in Hutchinson, the son of Kenneth G. and Elnora Scheuermann Unruh. He graduated in 1981, from Hutchinson High School. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a millwright for Southwest Associates, Burrton, and had worked for American Maplan, McPherson, and Alcoa, Hutchinson.
He belonged to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.
Survivors include: his parents, Hutchinson; two brothers, Kenneth DeWayne, Olalla, Wash., and Daniel, Leavenworth; two sisters, Pam Nelson, Hutchinson, and Suzan Crystal, Kansas City, Mo.; and three nephews, Christopher and Samuel Nelson, and Trevor Crystal.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 East 12th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Daniel Galchutt presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Earl and Louise Unruh, Rozel, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Estes Park, Colo., with their family.
Unruh and the former Louise Wilson were married May 31, 1957, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in rural Larned.

HILLSBORO - Ella Becker, 93, died May 13, 2007, in Hillsboro.
She was born May 14, 1913, in Dolton, S.D., the daughter of Abraham Unruh and Helena Unruh Unruh. She was the owner of Lighthouse Christian Book and Gift Store.
She was a member of Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church.
On April 2, 1934, she married Sam BECKER in Marion, S.D. He died in 1989.
Survivors include: three daughters, Darlene Franz, Hillsboro, Elvira Nickel, Rapid City, S.D., and Colleen Regehr, Granby, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grand-children.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, with Pastor Dave Plett presiding. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jost Funeral Home. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Schartner Cemetery, Marion, S.D.

NEWTON - Lanny D. Unruh, 65, died Sept. 12, 2007, at his home, Newton.
He was born July 6, 1942, in Goessel, the son of Virgil and Linda Franz Unruh. He graduated from the University of Chicago. A resident of Newton, formerly a longtime resident of Chicago, he worked for the State of Illinois until retiring.
Survivors include: his mother and stepfather, Linda and W.G. Williams, Newton; two brothers, Terry, Wichita, and Gary, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Gail Unruh-Revel, Newton; and his ex-wife, Barbara Unruh, Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his father Virgil Unruh.
Funeral will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Harvey County West Park. Private family burial will be held. Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Moundridge, the daughter of Dan H. and Lizzie Jantz Unruh. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity Mennonite Church.
On Nov. 7, 1943, she married Ben GOENTZEL in rural Durham. He survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Ken, Harrisonville, Mo., and Charles and Bob, both of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandsons; and three great-grandsons.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, with Pastor D.A. Raber presiding. DALLAS, Texas - Naomi Ruth Unruh, 86, died Aug. 9, 2007, at Dallas, Texas.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Pretty Prairie, the daughter of Fred and Lydia Unruh. She had been living in Dallas with her sister, Alvena Unruh, after moving there from Little Rock, Ark.
She joined WACs in 1943, after news that her brother, Marion, was reported missing in action in the South Pacific.
Survivors include: four sisters, Ruby Hampton, Alvena Unruh, Eva Irvin and De Ette Ellis; and nine nephews and nieces.
Memorial service was held Aug. 17 at Arbor Place, Presbyterian Village, Dallas. An additional memorial service will be held at a later date in Lone Star Cemetery, Pretty Prairie. Memorials may be sent to the New Jerusalem Church, 106 N. Maple, Pretty Prairie, KS 67570

WHITTIER, Calif. - Ruby Unruh Hampton, 99, died Aug. 14, 2007, at Whittier, Calif.
She was born Feb. 15, 1908, in Pretty Prairie, the daughter of Fred and Lydia Unruh. She was the oldest of five sisters and was preceded in death by her sister, Naomi, who died Aug. 9 and by four brothers. She completed three years of nurses training at Grace Hospital, Hutchinson. She was a resident of Whittier, Calif., formerly of Pontiac, Michigan and Hutchinson.
She married Jim HAMPTON. He died in April 2003.
Survivors include: a son, Jerry and wife, Stephanie, Whittier, Calif.; three sisters, Alvena Unruh, Dallas, Eva Irvin, Hutchinson, and De Ette Ellis, Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren, Adrienne Renwick and husband, Bruce, Hinsdale, Ill., and Allison Hampton, Ruidoso, N.M.; two great-grandchildren, Betsy and Billy Renwick; and eight nephews and nieces.
Her body was donated to the University of Southern California. Her remains will be buried, along with her husband, at a later date in Lone Star Cemetery, Pretty Prairie.

GOESSEL - Velma A. Franz, 94, died Oct. 20, 2007, at Bethesda Home, Goessel.
She was born March 16, 1913, in McPherson County, the daughter of Peter H. and Susie Warkentin Unruh. A resident of Goessel, she was a homemaker and a farmer.
She belonged to Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.
On Oct. 26, 1947, she married Milford FRANZ. He died May 2005.
Survivors include: nieces and nephews, Janis Newberry, Jimmy Franz, Jerry Franz, Karen Jones, Johnny Franz, Clarence Franz, Francis Unruh, Lillian Falls, Calvin Dahl, Dorothy Dahl, Sharon Schroeder, Beverly Boese, Barbara Braun, Don Dahl, Terry Unruh, Gary Unruh, and Gail Unruh-Revel.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Unruh; and three nephews, Willard Dahl, Larry Franz and Lanny Unruh.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel, with Pastors Linda Ewert and Lee Suderman presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Miller Funeral Home, Goessel. Burial will be in Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church Cemetery. On Oct. 26, 1947, she married Milford Franz at Goessel.
She was a homemaker and farmer and member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. She was an avid quilter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford, who died in 2005; her parents; brother, Elmer Smith; and three nephews, Willard Dahl, Larry Franz, and Lanny Unruh.
