NEWTON - Aldine L. Funk, 81, died Aug. 2, 2007, at her home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Albert and Anna Scheikowsky Pankratz. She retired from USD 373, where she was a baker for 17 years.
On Sept. 1, 1947, she married Arlie FUNK in Hillsboro. He survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Dwight, Dale and Terry, all of Newton; a daughter, Sharon Hudson, Newton; two brothers, Harold Pankratz, Hillsboro, and Paul Pankratz, Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, Marjorie Just, Hillsboro, and Marilyn Neally, Titusville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Church of God, Newton, with Pastor Brian Curran presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of the funeral home.

Alice F. Harms, 79, died Sept. 12, 2007, at her home at Parsons.
Born Nov. 20, 1927, at Hillsboro, she was the daughter of Peter and Mary (Funk) Pankratz. She attended schools in the Brudertal Church community near Hillsboro, and graduated from Hillsboro High School.
On Aug. 3, 1952, she married Sylvester Harms near Hillsboro. He died in 2005.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Pankratz.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen Harms of Tucson, Ariz., and John Harms of Leawood; a daughter, Sheila Lyle of Parsons; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon at First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, east of Newton.
A memorial fund has been established with Mennonite Disaster Service.

ABILENE -- Bradley S. Pankratz, 47, Abilene, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007.
Mr. Pankratz was born Dec. 1, 1959, in Harper. He was employed by Midco Plastics in Enterprise.
Survivors include his wife, Leona, of Brownburg, Ind.; two sons, Matthew S. of North Wales, Pa., and Jay H. of Hillsboro, Ore.; a daughter, Amanda N. Ruff of Sandpoint, Idaho; his father and stepmother, John and Beth, of Overbrook; a brother, Michael T. of Ottawa; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Abilene Bible Baptist Church. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Fouts Cemetery, Ottawa. Debra S. Leiker, 51, Great Bend, died Monday, May 21, 2007, at Golden Living Center, Downs.
She was born April 10, 1956, in Hays to Theodore and Irene A. (Werner) Panzer.
She was a registered nurse at Great Bend Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Leiker, Lawrence and Justin Leiker, Wichita; a daughter, Amy Goscha, Victoria; her mother, Oden; three brothers, Terry Panzer, Lawrence, Bob Panzer, Ellsworth, and Thomas Panzer, Chandler, Ariz.; a sister, Faye Ellenz, Cawker City; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held recently for Mrs. Gottlieb Pahl [Emilia Peltz] former resident of the New Leipzig area, who died at her home in McIntosh, S. Dak., after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Pahl was born in Russia in January 1889, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Peltz. She came to America in her youth and was married in 1907 to Gottlieb PAHL. The family lived near New Leipzig until 1926 when they moved to a farm near McIntosh.
Surviving Mrs. Pahl are her husband and daughter, Gertrude and one sister, Mrs. Christ Sandau of Missoula, Mont.
Rev. Breist officiated at the funeral services held in the Lutheran church north of New Leipzig. Interment was in the church cemetery. Francis N. Pfannenstiel, 84, Munjor, died Sunday, May 27, 2007, at St. John’s Health Care Center, Victoria.
He was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Munjor to Ludwig and Johanna (Dreher) Pfannenstiel.
He married Rita M. (ARNHOLD). He was a farmer and worked for the city of Hays for more than 30 years. He was a merchant marine during World War II. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Munjor.
Survivors include two daughters, Kerry Harwood and husband, Leland “Jack”, Hays, and Dora Leiker and husband, Mark H, Munjor; a brother, Ed Phannenstiel, Benton; two sisters, Mildred Walters, Hays; Sister Audrey Pfannenstiel C.S.A., Fond Du Lac, Wis.; four grandchildren, Marcie Logsdon, Amy Leiker, Carl Leiker, and Katara Harwood; and a great-grandson, Noah Leiker.

HAYS - Philomene Berens, 91, died April 21, 2007, at Hays Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 5, 1915, in Antonino, the daughter of John M. and Mary Theresa Herl Pfannenstiel. She was a farmwife and a housekeeper for Fort Hays State University.
She belonged to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
On Oct. 18, 1937, she married Otto BERENS. He died Jan. 2, 1975.
Survivors include: three daughters, Arlene M. Erbert, and Marian Ptaschek, both of Ellis, and Catharine Kutina, McPherson; two brothers, Henry Pfannenstiel, Hays, and DJ Pfannenstiel, Munjor; two sisters, Rosie Dome, Kansas City, and Theresa Schippers, Victoria; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ted, Bob, Jake and Eddie Pfannenstiel; five sisters, Lucy Schmidtberger, Ida Dinkel, Armella Ross, Louise Steckline and Virginia Dreiling; and an infant sister, Theresa Pfannenstiel.

He married Jeanette WAGNER on May 1, 1971, in Victoria. He was co-owner of J-Corp.

Mr. Pfanenstiel was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Salina. He retired as a conductor/brakeman for Union Pacific Railroad after 35 years.

Andrew J. “Andy” Pfeifer Jr., 71, Topeka, died Monday, June 4, 2007, at a local hospital.
He was born Dec. 23, 1935, in Ellis, to Andrew M. and Amelia “Molly” (Reidel) Pfeifer Sr. He was a graduate of Washburn University and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and attended Washburn Law School.
He married Wilma L. SHORT on Feb. 24, 1968 at Holy Name Catholic Church. He was a management analyst for the Kansas Department of Human Resources before retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; and a sister, Mary Catherine Worley, Abilene.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church; burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors by Philip Billard Post No. 1650.

Daniel J. Pfeifer, 83, Hays, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Cedarview Assisted Living.
He was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Vincent to Jacob A. and Regina (Brungardt) Pfeifer.
He married Teresa M. CASEY on Sept. 28, 1949. She preceded him in death Feb. 10, 1980. He was a stockman and farmer and avid draft horseman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Sunflower Polka Club, all of Hays.

LYONS - Velma Jean Dreiling, 72, died July 26, 2007, at her home in Lyons. She was born Jan. 3, 1935, in Hays, the daughter of Frank and Mary Seib Pfeifer. She graduated from Hays High School in 1953. A resident of Lyons since 1964, she was a retired bookkeeper and a counter person for Big A-Auto Parts, Lyons. She belonged St. Paul's Catholic Church, Altar Society, served on the Board of the Thrift Shop, and volunteered at Friendship Meals, all in Lyons. On July 16, 1956, she married LeRoy DREILING in Hays. He survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Deborah Green, Overland Park, and Jolene Dreiling, Lawrence; four brothers, George Pfeifer, Omaha, Neb., Bob Pfeifer, Firth, Idaho, Alfred Pfeifer, Hays, and Marvin Pfeifer, Salina; a sister, Bernice Rhea, Sharon Springs; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Pfeifer and Francis Pfeifer Jr. Rosary will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with Father Daniel Lorimer presiding. The casket will be closed. Private burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ellis. CLAFLIN — Lane Matthew Pflughoeft, infant son of Tim Pflughoeft and Brenda Gisick, died Sept. 2 at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Sept. 2. (2007)
Survivors include his parents of Claflin; a sister, Erika Gisick of Claflin; and grandparents, Michelle Steinert of Holyrood, Jere and Bonnie Buehler and Don and Jane Steinert, all of Claflin, and Vernon Pflughoeft and Rita Clements of Chase.
Graveside service will be at 5 p.m. on Friday at Claflin Cemetery. The family will gather at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center following the service.

Marvin Lee Philippi, 77, of Stockton and formerly of Lodi, died Nov. 24, 2005. He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Dallas, S.D.
Mr. Philippi served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired after 29 years of working as a traffic engineer for the California Department of Transportation. He also owned and operated Marv's Refrigeration and Appliance Store in Stockton for several years.
He was a member of the Stockton Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a member of the San Joaquin Orchid Society where he had been vice-president, the San Joaquin Bonsai Club, Sons in Retirement, the American Legion, Volunteers in Police Service and the Lockeford VFW Post No. 9009 where he served as chaplain.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, making model ships and doing ceramic artwork while attending classes at San Joaquin Delta College.
He is survived by his wife Elsie; his children Lee Philippi, of Stockton, Barbara Pinch, of Stillwater, Minn., and Molly Mills, of Cloverdale; his brother, Ervin Philippi; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Stockton Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. Committal will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Memorial contributions may be made to Stockton Central SDA Church, 1314 N. Madison St., Stockton, CA 95206. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BAYARD - Dennis "Swede" Pontine, 62, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
His Funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Bayard with the Reverend George Naylor officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bayard Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Donor's Choice.

Swede was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Denver, the son of LeRoy and Esther (Nagel) Pontine. He was raised and educated at Bayard and graduated from the Bayard High School with the Class of 1963. He then attended Parks Business College at Denver and worked for the Great Western Sugar Co. at Denver while attending college. After college he returned to Bayard and worked for the Great Western Sugar Co. and then Western Sugar Co. for over thirty years. Swede was united in marriage to Carol SCHWINDT, July 20, 1969, in Bayard and to this union they were blessed with two daughters, Suzanne (Jeff) Wengler and Valerie Pontine. He was blessed with his son-in-law in January of 1995 and grandson Tanner in 1998, who was his pride and joy.
He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and a thirty-five year member of the Bayard Volunteer Fire Dept. Dennis loved to hunt with his dog "Bimbo." His favorite pastime was golfing with his friends, gardening and spending time with Tanner.
Survivors include his wife Carol; daughters, Suzanne (Jeff) Wengler of Gering, Valerie Pontine of Bayard; grandson, Tanner; step-granddaughters, Meisha and Aylie Wengler; sister, LeeAnn (Dwain) McLaughlin of Gering; nephews, Christopher and Jared Dudden and nieces, Heather Macholan and Melissa Pokorny.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

GENESEO - Ida Mae Taylor, 74, died Aug. 30, 2007 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born June 30, 1933, in Dorrance, the daughter of David and Anna Milberger Prester. She graduated from Dorrance High School in 1951. She was a resident of Geneseo for 45 years and was a homemaker. She belonged to Grace Lutheran Church; L.W.M.L, Lyons; and was a former member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary. On Aug. 29, 1954, she married Hugh S. TAYLOR, Niles, Mich. He died March 5, 2001.
Survivors include: a son, Brad and wife, Mim, Geneseo; a daughter, Pam
Saunders, Wilson, a sister, Irene M. Hart, Geneseo; four grandchildren, Trent Taylor and fiance, Darci Wheeler, Hutchinson, Tori Taylor, Lawrence, Adam Barta and wife, Laura, Randall, Nicole Rose and husband, Paul, RAF Lakenheath, England; and two great-grandchildren, Jace and Cade Rose. She was preceded in death by two brothers, E.N. and L.W. Prester; an infant sister, Helen Prester; and a son-in-law, Mark D. Saunders.
