Brandon James Wertz, 25, of Scottsbluff passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff after a courageous battle with auto immune hepatitis.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 11, at the American Legion Hall in Alliance. Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Crematory.

Brandon was born Dec. 3, 1981 in Kimball to Allen and Mitzi (Starke) Wertz. He graduated from Kimball High School with the Class of 2000.
Brandon is survived by his mother and step-father Mitzi and Dwight Knaub of Scottsbluff and Alliance; father and step-mother, Allen and Lisa Wertz of Wichita, Kan.; grandparents, Rudy and Pat Starke of Alliance and Jim and Joy Wertz of Kimball; step-grandmother, Wilma Knaub of Alliance; half-sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Kevin Hinzman of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; half-brother, Justin Wertz of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; step-sister, Kelly Robinson of Alliance; step-sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Mike Russell of Alliance; step-brother and sister-in-law, Casey and Misty Knaub of Alliance; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
His half-brother Jared Wertz preceded Brandon in death.

Elmer Weyand, 74, of Newton, died Sept. 3, 2007.

Born April 2, 1933, at Galva, he was the son of Herbert and Bertha (Ollek) Weyand.

On June 13, 1953, he married Erletta WILLEMS at Rose Pine, La.

He worked at Boeing in Wichita and later as a maintenance technician at Axtell Hospital, Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard Weyand.

Survivors include his wife, Erletta of Newton; three daughters, Marilyn Lubbers of Leavenworth, Gerry Epp of Newton, and Shirley Esau of Walton; brother, Gerald Weyand of Norton; two sisters, Lenora Martens and Lorene Holloway, both of McPherson; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday morning at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, Newton, with the Rev. Dean VonStroh officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Garden of Memories, Newton. Memorial funds were established with the American Diabetes Association or City of Newton EMS.

NEWTON - Robert B. "Bob" Wiebe, 86, died Oct. 7, 2007, at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
He was born April 23, 1921, in Buhler, the son of Henry and Ruby Ensz Wiebe. He served in the military during World War II and was involved in the Normandy invasion. He retired as a printer for the former Herald Publishing Co., Newton.
He belonged to Newton Bible Church.
On Jan. 25, 1946, he married Rozella "Rosie" SCHMIDT in Newton. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Charles, Garden City; a daughter, Judith G. Mace, Newton; a brother, Lewis, Houston; and a sister, Alvera Schmidt, Newton; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Austin Weibe; and a sister, Lorna Wiebe.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Newton Bible Church with Pastor Don Myer presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Petersen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Newton. HILLSBORO - Ted J. Wiebe, 82, died Nov. 1, 2007, at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro.
He was born May 17, 1925, in Finney County, the son of Henry A. and Mary Ens Wiebe. A resident of Hillsboro, formerly of Garden City, he was a grain farmer.
He belonged to Garden Valley Church, Garden City.
On Aug. 21, 1971, he married Nettie A. REMPEL in Hillsboro. She died in 2003.
Survivors include: a daughter, Lisa Wiebe, Hesston; two brothers, Arthur, Hillsboro, and Orville, Richmond, Va.; and a sister, Betty Phillips, Kingsport, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Wiebe.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church, Hillsboro, with Pastor Roy Keller presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with the family present. Graveside service will be at noon Tuesday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. J. Arling Wiederspahn, 91, of Cheyenne died April 10 at Cheyenne Healthcare Center.

He was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Grand Island, Neb., to George and Elizabeth Wiederspahn. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where he grew up and graduated from Palmer High School in 1934.

Mr. Wiederspahn moved to Greeley, Colo., in 1934 where he was employed by the Macy Funeral Home and Camfield Hotel. He moved to Cheyenne in 1936, worked for United Airlines as a sheet metal mechanic until leaving for Chicago in 1938 to attend Worsham College of Mortuary Science. After graduating he returned to Cheyenne, working for United Airlines and Worland Mortuary. In 1946, Arling and Robert E. Grace formed a partnership and purchased the Worland Mortuary operating as the Wiederspahn and Grace Mortuary. In 1956, Mr. Wiederspahn built and then opened the Wiederspahn Chapel of the Chimes, which he owned and operated with his wife, Edvina, until their retirement in 1987. Cheyenne Memorial Gardens was purchased in 1967 and in 1979 a crematory was added, which was the first in the state of Wyoming and holds license No. 1 He had been a licensed mortician for 69 years and appointed by Gov. Herschler to serve two terms on the State Board of Embalming; elected Laramie County coroner, serving 12 years, and served as deputy county coroner for several years. He was a member and past president of the National Association of Approved Morticians, elected to the Board of Trustees at Laramie County Community College, serving for 15 years. He was appointed by five different mayors to serve a total of 20 years on the Firemen's Civil Service Commission. He served on The Salvation Army Board for 22 years, was a member and past president of the Laramie County Chapter of the American Red Cross as well as the Board of Goodwill Industries. He was a Boy Scout leader and member and past president of the Deming PTA, where he and his wife were honored with the Parent Teacher Association All Star Parents Award at the 50th anniversary of Deming Grade School. He was also a member of Cheyenne Jaycees (Jr. Chamber of Commerce), receiving the Outstanding Young Man award in 1949, member and past president of Cheyenne Lions Club, active in a number of fraternal organizations, Past Worthy Patron of Mizpah Chapter No. 36 of the Order of Eastern Star, past patron of the Indian Paintbrush Court Order of Amaranth, member of Acacia Lodge No. 11 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, member of Korein Shrine and Wyoming Consistory No. 1, Past Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel No. 33 and he often chaperoned many Bethel activities. He was a long-time member of Gideon International and held a lifetime membership in the Elks Lodge No. 660.

He was a member of Zion Congregational Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, a member and past president of the Church Board and as a deacon.

After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Wiederspahn spent several months a year in Peoria, Ariz., and attended Desert Palms Presbyterian Church, where also served as a Stephen minister.

Arling Wiederspahn is survived by his two children and their spouses, Janet and Dwight Haught and Al Wiederspahn and Cynthia Lummis, all of Cheyenne; grandchildren, LaRon Hogg-Haught of San Francisco, LaRae Reid and her husband, James of Hollister, Calif., Trenton Hogg and his wife, Melissa of Cheyenne and Annaliese Wiederspahn of Cheyenne; great-grandchildren, Shane, Nathan and Quinn Dirksen of Hollister and Louden Hogg of Cheyenne; a sister-in-law, Irene Lamb; several nieces and nephews; and his extended family includes David Haught and his wife Cindy of Sheridan, Don Haught and his wife Robin and Doug Haught and his wife Julie, all of Torrington; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edvina, whom he married March 17, 1938; his parents, George and Elizabeth Wiederspahn; two sisters, Barbara Weber and Rose Lamb; and two brothers, Conrad Wiederspahn and Robert Wiederspahn.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Elmer Wilhelm officiating. Interment will be at Beth El Cemetery. HILLSBORO - Frank J. Wiens, 94, died July 12, 2007, at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro.
He was born Feb. 23, 1913, in Nalgonda, India, the son of Frank J. and Marie Warkentin Wiens. He worked for the Mennonite Central Committee.
He belonged to Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.
On Aug. 30, 1946, he married Marie KLASSEN in California. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Glenn, Wichita; three daughters, Rebecca Penner, Wichita, Marcia LaJeunesse, Boulder, Colo., and Miriam Holmes, Louisville, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

HILLSOBORO - Marlene A. Schwind, 71, died Oct. 9, 2007, at the Bethesda Home, Goessel. She was born Sept. 26, 1936, in Hillsboro, the daughter of J.B. and Agnes Thiessen Wiens. She was an elementary school teacher. She belonged to Ebenfeld M.B. Church, Hillsboro.
On July 25, 1964, she married Larry SCHWIND in Hillsboro. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two daughters, Karen Schwind, Newton, and Kristi Cummings, Dallas; a brother, Eldon, Hillsboro; and a sister, Phyllis Litke, Hillsboro.

NESS CITY - Doris Corrine Pfannenstiel, 81, died Oct. 29, 2007, at Ness County Long Term Care, Ness City.
She was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Tipton. She graduated from Ness City High School. A lifetime resident of Ness City, she was the owner and operator of a clothing store.
She belonged to Sacred Heart Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.
On June 16, 1947, she married Richard Pfannenstiel in Ness City. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: a brother, Don Wiese, Hutchinson; and many nephews and nieces.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, with Father Henry Hildebrand presiding. VERDIGRE - Memorial services for Evelyn M. VanBuren, 85, of Verdigre will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Brockhaus Funeral Home here. Burial will be in the Jelen Cemetery in Verdigre. Visitation will begin two hours prior to services.
Mrs. VanBuren died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall, S.D.
Evelyn Mary (Wilhelm) VanBuren was born on May 26, 1922, on a farm 12 miles west of Verdigre, known at that time as the John Jelen farm. She was a twin daughter of Louis and Belle (Winchell) Wilhelm. At the age of four years her family moved to a farm nine miles west of Verdigre.
Evelyn attended country School District 66 through the eighth grade. She helped on the family farm and worked as a hired girl to help the neighbor families.
When her brother Dave went into the service Evelyn helped with his farm until his return home in 1945. At that time Evelyn was employed at Felix's Cafe. This is where she met her future husband and was married to Ben VAN BUREN on May 7, 1952. She lived all her married life on the family farm three miles northwest of Verdigre. To this union three children were born, Benjie, Bruce and Isabelle.
Evelyn enjoyed life on the farm raising chickens, growing flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed canning and freezing her garden produce. Evelyn loved her children and grandchildren. After her husband's death in 2001, Evelyn stayed on the farm with her son Benjie.
She is survived by her two sons, Benjie and Bruce VanBuren of Verdigre; a daughter, Isabelle Knori of Niobrara; two grandsons, B.J. and Brandon VanBuren of Verdigre; a granddaughter, Robyn VanBuren of Yankton, S.D.; twin sister, Irene Frank of Verdigre; a niece, Darlene and husband Ken Porter of Norfolk.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben; her brothers, Floyd and Dave; her sisters, Faye and Fern; a son-in-law, Larry Knori; and a daughter-in-law, Roxann VanBuren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

CASPER -- Funeral services for Larry Dean Wilhelm, 65, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Highland Park Community Church with Mike Propp officiating. Those planning to attend are asked to wear brown and gold as they honor a real Wyoming Cowboy. Interment will follow at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Natrona County United Veterans Council and the Wyoming Army National Guard. A reception will follow at the Casper Country Club.

Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Bustard's Funeral Home.

He died Sept. 10, 2007, at his home in Casper after a long illness.

He was born Aug. 29, 1942, in Wheatland, to John and Katherine (Fox) Wilhelm. He attended Wheatland schools and graduated in 1960.

Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 18 months in Germany. He was very proud of the time he served and continued his patriotism by supporting the troops.

He moved to Greeley, Colo., after his enlistment and began working for State Farm Insurance in July 1963. He had a successful career with State Farm and opened his own agency in March 1972 in Greeley. He was promoted to agency manager in Casper in 1976 and returned to an agency in Casper in February 1991.

He married Pamela GALLOWAY during his time in Greeley. They had two children, Heather and Scott, and later divorced.

He married Reida SCHWAMB of Casper. One of the highlights of his later years were his grandsons.

He was an avid supporter of University of Wyoming sports, the Cowboy Joe Club and the T-Bird Booster Club.

He coached Midget Football, helped to create and coached in the Casper Youth Soccer League and was involved in many community activities, including the Chamber of Commerce Sports & Attractions Committee, Rotary, March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Survivors include his wife of Casper, daughter, Heather Anderson and her husband; son, Scott Wilhelm, all of Fort Collins, Colo.; stepson, Shawn Boyles and his wife of Casper; three grandsons, three brothers, John Wilhelm of Wheatland, Ron Wilhelm of Torrington and Marvin Wilhelm of Denver; and three sisters, Dorothy Schmidt of Greeley, Colo., Ernestine Shepard of Bakersfield, Calif., and Viola Voight of Wheatland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leo Wilhelm and Harvey Wilhelm.

TORRINGTON, Wyo. - Peter A. Wilhelm, 63, died Oct. 2, 2007, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Youngquist officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Valley View Cemetery. Viewing hours will be Thursday, Oct. 4, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials can be made out to the Spina Bifida Association or the Riley Hospital for Children. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home .
He was born in Arapahoe, Wyo. Sept. 29, 1944, to George and Esther (Miller) Wilhelm. Peter moved with his family to Torrington 1949 where he lived until his death. He graduated from Torrington in 1963 and from EWC in 1970. He served with the U.S. Army from 1966-1968. His military duties took him to France and Germany. Peter married Vicki ZIMMERMAN and the couple later divorced. He was employed as a technician at John Deer in Torrington from 1969-2001.
His family and friends will always remember Peter for his extensive collection of John Deer memorabilia. He also enjoyed listening to golden oldies while cruising the highways.
Survivors include his sons, Jeff and wife Kim and grandchildren, Cameron and Brandon, all of Elkhart, Ind., and Jason Garver and wife Nicole and granddaughter, McKayla, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers, George and wife Jean of Torrington, Daniel and friend Jacque Armes of Cheyenne; sisters, Betty Zimmerman and husband Dennis of Sterling, Colo., and Virginia Gibson and husband Dan of Lyman, Neb., former wife, Vickie Garver-Key of Spokane, Wash.; aunts, Wilma Dillman of Torrington and Alice Miller of Casper, Wyo., numerous nieces and nephews as well as his special friends and neighbors Richard and Shirley VanderBoss.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a baby brother; sister, Pauline Orr; brother in-law, Robert Orr, and nephew, Robert Orr Junior.

McPHERSON -- Wilma Grace Schroeder, 73, McPherson, died Thursday, April 5, 2007.

Mrs. Schroeder was born Wilma Grace Winter on April 5, 1934, in Lehigh. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (SCHROEDER) , in 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Kay Thrower of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dawn Lynette Crumpacker of Roxbury; a son, Kevin Dale of Galva; five sisters, Virginia Schulz, Lois Lake and Betty Brewer, all of McPherson, Joyce Gooding of Tempe, Ariz., and Mary Tector of Wichita; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Wilma Grace Schroeder, 73, died April 5, 2007, at her home in McPherson.

Born April 5, 1934, at Lehigh, she was the daughter of Fred and Ellen (Kasper) Winter.

She was a homemaker, waitress at several restaurants in McPherson, and clerk at the former K-Mart store in McPherson.

On Sept. 29, 1957, she married Robert Schroeder at Lehigh. He died in 2004.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Glenn Winter.

Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Thrower of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dawn Crumpacker of Roxbury; son, Kevin Schroeder of Galva; five sisters, Virginia Schulz, Lois Lake, and Betty Brewer of McPherson, Joyce Gooding of Tempe, Ariz., and Mary Tector of Wichita; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at the First United Methodist Church, McPherson, with the Rev. Harold Nelson officiating.

Burial was in McPherson Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the American Diabetes Association.

HAYS — Elmer R. Wolf, 79, died Dec. 12 (2007) at Hays Medical Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1927, at Antonino, to John and Monica (Werth) Wolf. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Lorraine WASINGER on April 5, 1948, at Hays. She died Dec. 22, 1991. He was employed at Fort Hays State University for 40 years in the grounds department.

Mr. Wolf was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and played with several bands throughout Ellis County.

Survivors include his sons, William “Bill” Wolf, and Robert “Bob” Wolf and wife Susan, all of Hays; two sisters, Irma Schaffer and Cora Giebler, both of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Jeff Wolf and wife Jenny of McKinney, Texas, Chrissy Bandel and husband Corey of Oskaloosa, Curtis Wolf of Great Bend and Shelly Wolf of Hutchinson; and five great-grandchildren, Christian Bandel, Corissa Bandel, Cresinda Bandel, Alexia Wolf and Ethan Wolf. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Wolf; brothers, Richard Wolf, Alphonse Wolf, Alvin Wolf and Silven Wolf; sisters, Germaine Dechant, Isabella Dechant, Victoria Fisher and Shirley Meier.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial with military services by the Hays VFW will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays. A parish vigil will be at 6 p.m. today at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Monday. Memorials have been established with the Fort Hays State University Endowment Association or with the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Building Fund in his name and memory.

HAYS - Laverne P. Wolf, 81, died May 26, 2007, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Schoenchen, the son of Peter P. and Anna Herl Wolf. He was a farmer and an oil field pumper for 45 years, retiring in 1997.

He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion, all at Hays, and the Schoenchen Knights of Columbus Council No. 4166. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On April 11, 1953, he married Rita M. BRUNGARDT in Victoria. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Randy, Derby, and Kurt, Wamego; a daughter, Pamela McDonald, Topeka; a sister, Vera Augustine, Hays; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Ann Wolf.

Vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays. Schoenchen Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, with military graveside rites conducted by the Hays V.F.W. and the American Legion. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorder Association, St. Joseph Catholic Church or the masses, all in care of the funeral home.

LAKIN - Terry L. Wolfe, 59, died April 22, 2007, at Kearny County Hospital, Lakin.

He was born March 22, 1948, in Colby, the son of Darrel E. and Laura A. Liester Wolfe. In 1966, he graduated from Deerfield High School and then attended Brown-Mackie Business College, Salina. A resident of Lakin, formerly of Denver, he worked for Crown Consultants, which is now XTO Energy, and in the construction side of the gas industry.

He belonged to United Methodist Church, Deerfield, and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Survivors include: his father; and a sister, Marilyn Wolfe, Lakin.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Deerfield, with the Rev. Jim Pollom presiding. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until 8 Memorials may be sent to High Plains Retirement Village or the church, in care of the funeral home.
